Projects, your account, and billing

Manage your projects library, your account dashboard at castforge.ai, the desktop-to-web handoff, and your plan. Castforge is free during early access, with no paid plans to buy right now.

Managing your projects

Everything you have opened in Castforge lives in the Projects library. Open it from the sidebar to see every project in one table, search across them, and tidy up the list.

Find a project

The toolbar at the top of the Projects library gives you four ways to narrow the list:

  1. Search. Type in the search box (placeholder "Search projects, files, branches...") to filter by project name, path, or template. It updates as you type and is not case-sensitive.
  2. Agent filter. "All agents" by default. Narrow to any connected agent (GitHub Copilot, Claude, Codex, Gemini, Cursor, Local, and the rest).
  3. Template filter. "All templates" by default, plus a chip for each template in view.
  4. Status filter. "All status" by default, plus Awaiting, Running, Done, Idle, Paused, and Failed.

Your filter choices are remembered between sessions, so the list looks the way you left it next time you open the app. The search text itself is intentionally not remembered, so you always start with a clean search box.

Sort the list

Click a column header to sort by it, and click again to flip the direction. The default sort is Last edit, newest first. The columns are Project (name and path), Last edit, Files, Status, Template, and Agent. Your sort choice is remembered between sessions.

Active and archived

A segmented toggle switches the table between Active and Archived projects. New projects start as Active. Archiving moves a project out of the way without deleting anything, and you can restore it later.

Select and act on projects

Tick the checkbox on one or more rows (or use "Select all") and an action bar slides in above the table with these actions:

Use "Clear" to deselect everything and hide the action bar.

Delete a project safely

Deleting is deliberately hard to do by accident. When you click Delete, a confirmation dialog appears:

  1. By default it removes only the project's entry from Castforge. Your files on disk are not touched. The dialog says so plainly: "This permanently removes the project metadata from Castforge. Your project files on disk are NOT deleted."
  2. There is an optional checkbox, "Also delete the project folder from disk." Tick this only if you really want to erase the folder, files, and git history on disk. The dialog adds a stronger warning when you do.
  3. You must type the word delete into a confirmation field before the Delete button activates.

Either way, deletion cannot be undone, so prefer Archive if you only want the project out of your list.

Recent projects

Your home screen shows your most recently opened projects as cards so you can jump straight back in. To drop one from that list, right-click its card and confirm "Remove ... from recent?". This only removes it from the recent shortcuts; the project itself and its files are untouched.

Your account dashboard at castforge.ai

Your account dashboard lives on the web at castforge.ai and covers everything about you as a Castforge customer: your profile, email and notification preferences, privacy settings, your plan, and account deletion. You sign in there with the same email you use in the app.

Profile and your first name

The Settings page shows your profile card with your name, email, when you joined, and your sign-in method (magic link). Click Edit profile to set your first name. Your first name is what the app and emails greet you by, so it is worth filling in.

Email and notifications

Under Email and notifications you control three independent toggles:

Each toggle saves the moment you flip it.

Telemetry and analytics consent

Under Privacy there is a single Telemetry toggle. When on, Castforge collects anonymous usage data to help improve the product. It never includes your code or your prompts. Turn it off any time and the change saves immediately.

Export your data

Under "Your data," click Request export to download everything Castforge holds about your account as a single JSON file (castforge-account-export.json): your profile, subscription, shares, and privacy settings. It downloads straight to your device. Nothing is emailed.

Deleting your account

At the bottom of Settings, in the Danger zone, Delete account starts a 30-day soft-delete. Your data is frozen and recoverable during that window: just sign back in before the 30 days are up to cancel the deletion. After 30 days, your projects, snapshots, and account are erased for good. The flow is a two-step, type-to-confirm dialog (you type "delete my account") so it cannot happen by accident.

Opening the web dashboard without signing in again

You do not have to re-enter your credentials to reach your account dashboard. From inside the desktop app:

  1. Click your account card at the bottom of the sidebar to open the account menu.
  2. Choose Open web dashboard.

Castforge mints a single-use handoff code, hands it to your system browser, and lands you on the dashboard at castforge.ai already signed in. Your credentials never pass through the browser URL. If anything goes wrong with the automatic handoff, Castforge falls back to opening the normal sign-in page and tells you so, so you are never left stuck.

Plans and pricing: free during early access

Castforge is free during early access. Everything in the app is free while we are in early access: the full AI dev team, unlimited messages, and unlimited local projects. There are no paid plans to buy right now, there is no checkout to complete, and you are never asked for a card.

You bring your own AI, so the only thing you ever pay is each provider's own bill for model usage (Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, or GitHub), at their price. Castforge never marks that up or resells it. The lowest-friction start is a free GitHub Copilot sign-in; you can also use a Claude or ChatGPT subscription you already pay for, or your own API key.

We may introduce paid plans after early access. If we do, we will say so clearly and show any pricing before anything changes. Until then, there is nothing to subscribe to.

Note: Earlier "Pro" and "Pro Max" plans have been retired. They are no longer sold. If you already subscribe to one of them, your plan is honored and keeps working; you simply will not see them offered as new options.

What is included

Everything is free during early access:

Castforge is local-first: your code stays on your machine and agents run against your own subscriptions.

If paid plans arrive later

There is no paid subscription today, no trial to start, and no card to enter, because Castforge is free during early access. If Castforge introduces paid plans after early access, we will document how billing, trials, and cancellation work at that point, and any card details would be handled directly by the payment processor so your card number never touches Castforge. Until then, your billing screen at castforge.ai simply shows that you are on the free early-access plan.

Common questions

Does archiving or deleting a project remove my files? Archiving never touches your files; it only moves the project out of your Active list. Deleting removes the project from Castforge but leaves your files on disk, unless you explicitly tick "Also delete the project folder from disk."

Can I get my projects out of Castforge? Yes. Select projects in the library and click Export to download them as JSON. You can also export your whole account from the Settings page.

How do I open my account without signing in again? Use "Open web dashboard" from the account menu in the desktop app. It signs you straight in on castforge.ai.

What does Castforge cost? Castforge is free during early access. There is nothing to buy right now and no card is needed. You bring your own AI, so each provider bills you directly for model usage. Pro and Pro Max are retired and only honored for existing subscribers.

Is there a trial? There is no trial today, because Castforge is free during early access. If paid plans arrive after early access, we will document any trial at that point.

What happens if my card is declined? There is no billing today, so nothing can be declined. Castforge is free during early access and never asks you for a card.

Where do I change my card or cancel? There is nothing to change or cancel, because Castforge is free during early access and there is no paid subscription. If paid plans arrive later, card changes and cancellation would happen in a secure billing portal, with your card data handled by the payment processor and never seen by Castforge.

Will deleting my account happen right away? No. Deletion is a 30-day soft-delete. Sign back in within 30 days to cancel it; after that it is permanent.
